" Regret is a waste of time! When we regret, we are crippling our present with our past and the conclusion is sorrow, tears and pain. Instead, utilize that time for enjoying yourself. Make it a habit to divert your mind to other things when you are supposed to regret about your past"

Chilling Out...

As this week thankfully comes to a close, and I am starting to run out of energy, I really think that I am going to take my cue from kitty here and chill out for the rest of the weekend. No, I will not curl up on the slack, but he sure does look comfy doesn't he..

Ouch, That's Hot...

As appliances age, it is not unusual for the male terminals to work loose from the molded plugs, and occasionally when they fail, the prongs become embedded in the outlet. Judging by the burn marks on the end of the terminal, it looks as if this appliance had gotten the terminals quite hot from time to time. But what is even hotter is the now bare prong that is left in the "hot" side of the outlet. As this is in a bathroom with metal faucets and connection lines, can we say that overall, this could be a real eye-opener and an electrifying situation should a person brush the terminal and be touching the faucet. No! Thankfully it is in a working GFCI outlet.

What I can't understand, is why the home owner left the outlet in this condition... I guess that I'll have to send Bubba over there to remedy the situation. He just got a new battery powered screw driver that he is just dying to play with...

How Many Blogs Are Posted In AR Every Day...

Have you every wondered how many posts are added to the bolg roll every day here in Active Rain? Currently, there have been 710915 +/- a few posts that are part of the Active Rain system. How do I know? Every post is given a unique number ie. http://activerain.com/blogsview/710915/.  After watching AR for awhile, I have found that the code number /710915/ is part of the number sequencing of the data base. To find out how many posts have been added to the blog roll every day, take the first post closest to midnight and the last post just before midnight to determine the number of posts per day. Yesterday, AR cataloged 1624 blogs. Check it out... Don't ya just love us geeks?

OOPS...

As part of the inspection process for the State of Tennessee, we are required to test smoke detectors for functionality. Here in Davidson (Metro Nashville) and Williamson Counties, smoke alarms are to be wired in tandem so that an alarm in one area will sound throughout the entire system. We generally find that things work better when the electrician finishes the job...

Proxy Server Error...

It seems here lately, I have been reading a lot of posts about how slow AR has been here lately, and the frustration that people are getting when they cannot get on to their favorite blog spot. At various times of the day, I attempt to logon or go to a post and and I get the dreaded following message:

Proxy Error

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
The proxy server could not handle the request

Reason: Error reading from remote server

Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8b Server at activerain.com Port 80

To computer junkies such as myself, this is almost as bad as Microsoft's "Blue Screen of Death." I know how frustrating this can be, so before you get your urinary tract further upset or knickers in a wad, a few words about computers and networks.  In a computer network, a proxy server is a server which services the requests of its clients (AR members/users) by forwarding their requests to other servers that contain the data or information that they are requesting.

In basic terms, here is how a typical Internet system works. A user typically connects first to the proxy server your first encounter with the Active Rain network. Your are generally requesting some service, such as a blog, response to a blog, or other resource, available from a different server somewhere on the network. The proxy server provides the resource by connecting to the specified server containing the desired data and requesting the service on behalf of you the client.

Generally, all of this works rather seamlessly until high traffic volumes occur. When you get the proxy server error, equate this to getting a busy signal on your phone. Yesterday AR posted 1624 blogs. Now couple those posts along with tens of thousands of responses.

When you look at this sheer amount of volume along with the popularity the Active Rain community has enjoyed over the past few years, some traffic tie-ups can be expected. So before you pull your hair out, utter a few choice words under your breath, or pitch your computer out the window, calm down and just try calling back at another time. It will certainly save a lot of wear and tear on your urinary tract...

Is This Week Almost Over?

What a blur this week has been. It started off with a typical Midas touch Monday. It seemed as if every project I started, instead of turning to gold, turned a different color as it headed south. Although I tried to stay as motivated as possible, I just couldn't wait for the day to end. Pulled the covers over my head and said, tomorrow has to be a better day.

Land-o-goshin'! Woke up Tuesday to Monday revisited!!! Crap!!! Kinda felt like Ground Hog Day! Checked to see if there was a full moon, Nope! Something strange in the Nashville water supply? Nope! No strange pollutants in the air either. Men don't or are supposed to get those female cycles do they? Kinda felt like they are described anyway...

I woke up yesterday, felt great, lets go get 'em Tiger. Came home feeling like a whipped kitten... Just how many Mondays, does this week have for Pete's sake???

This morning I peeked out from under the covers that were securely covering my head from the gremlins and goblins of these past few Mondays hoping surely, today must be Tuesday. No!!! The clock on the computer says it is Thursday. Where did Tuesday and Wednesday go? Did I miss something or other...

Thanks, But No Thanks…

Many of you who follow my blogs, know that last Saturday I wrote a post about an attorney who was selling his house and he threatened to sue me because of issues that I put in my report that his inspector did not find a year ago. (Click Here to Read Post) Well blow me down, late Monday evening I get a call from the seller. To cop a phrase from the NFL, “Upon further review” of the structural, electrical and plumbing issues I addressed, it seems as if the original inspector missed these issues or failed to put them in his report.

Rut-Ro! I say that because now the seller wants to use my report as leverage against the original inspector and he wants me to testify that this guy was negligent in his duties as an inspector. Furthermore, he said that he wanted to hire me to inspect the house that he was buying.

Now, I am flattered that he apologized for ‘jumping the gun’ and presuming me guilty before I was found to be innocent, what a concept for an attorney. But, I told him that this business is a trust business, I have to trust my client and vise versa. I told him that because of his previous actions, I do not feel that I could do my job without feeling that I would be under duress and would not be able to perform my job professionally or objectively. I did offer other inspectors names that would be able to serve him well. He was taken aback by my refusal but he said he understood and he apologized again for his unprofessionalism. As for testifying against the other inspector, I told him I would if I was subpoenaed.

Gas Crisis in Nashville, TN...

I don't know how it is in your area, but since the last wave of hurricanes, especially Ike, the gasoline supply here in the Nashville area has dried up. Driving down any major street whether it be in Nashville, Brentwood or Franklin, one will see station after station with bags over the pump handles and no prices on the signs. Those stations that do have gasoline have long lines reminiscent of the gas shortages of the 70's. To add insult to injury, just try to find a 5 gal gas can in this town.

I left about 6 this morning to see if one of the local stations may have gotten a tanker in last night. One station did and lines were already forming. The attendant said that they get a tanker twice a day and within an hour or so, they are out of gas. The demand was so high, that the credit card machines at the pumps quit working...

If you plan to visit Nashville or the surrounding area in the next few days, bring your own gas and gas can. Your chances of finding either are slim and none and Slim just left town...

The above pictures are of the only station in Brentwood, TN that had gas... I was lucky, I was able to fill up after about a 30 minute wait...
