A Picture or a Photograph...
...what is the difference? Or is there? Anyone who reads my blogs knows that photography is my passion. Given an interesting subject, I can easily get into my right mind and start wandering behind the pixels.
I marvel at an artist's abilities to put images on canvas. There is a special place in their mind where time and form intertwine. Form becomes everything and time just is.
Granted. A massive field of flowers is something that most folks would want to take a picture of. Only someone in their "right mind" would spend an hour looking for the right subject to photograph...

Lighting...the light of a certain time of a day, in a certain season and the long shadows that you only get like how often an eclipse happens. Lighting just one element and then the subject, the focus behind if soft and to what degree, etc When I developed images on different paper stock, shot the images with different films, including black and white, all the variables make for a unique image, photo, picture. That's why when a recent AR blog says pictures should be shared on the area, the real estate to help the area I have to say the guy or gal that put the effort in to your blog, those images, should not just have other agents right click and steal them. Make, capture, collect your own! Great post.
Michael....I marvel at your "photography"....you do a great job of it and I'm glad you share it.
I have an answer ....but I'm going to use it for a post! Have a great holiday weekend!

Great photos Michael. I love sunflowers! Too bad we do not see them here enough.
I am not sure of the difference..guess you "pixel-ologists" understand the difference. I just enjoy them - whatever they are!
Hi Michael,
You are trully a great photographer. The flowers are lovely.
A great photographer sees what a normal person can't. Different angles, just like life.... with different perspective!
Michael, Like Richard, I do have an answer but will keep it to myself. Especially since I could do the same thing.
Photography like painting is art. Some folks are blessed with that special ability to see the world a little bit differently. We are lucky they can share their view with us. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with James in that photography and painting are forms of art.....Thanks for sharing your art with those of us that aren't so blessed!
Have a great day!
I now know my problem, I don't get into my "right" mind when looking for the right subject to photograph.
I have never seen a field of sunflowers. I do know that birds love the sunflowers i had planted in my previous home.
Michael~
...and to be able to captivate the artist-photographer, the subject must have a particular allure visible at a moment...invisible if one is not in that moment...and so the artist-photographer can enter a practice that delights and inspires....and then can reach out to touch others...as do YOU
Michael your sunflower shot is AMAZING. You really do have an amazing eye and great talent. Thank you for sharing with us.
I love love love the up close of the sunflower, would like to have that blown up and hanging over my couch...Wonderful job..
Mike, I always say the same thing to you ...you must get bored ...but, here we go again..another GREAT set of photos...we all enjoy your talent so much!
Beautiful.
I think the artist has the ability to slow down. You cannot "SEE" if you move too fast.
Michael..i would..Your photo's are extra special you have a fantastic gift !

Where's Debi Boucher, we need her to weigh in on this! Not sure what it is but as this layperson's point of view---- love both picture/photographs!
Michael...You truly have the "eye" when it comes to photography. I love the sunflower.
Michael - I think you answered your own question nicely; we picture something in our minds and when we find what looks right, we photograph it. Sunflowers always bring a smile.
Michael
I have seen many of your pictures and am know wondering if you have ever had a show or displayed your works anywhere.
If not you should , you have a fresh perspective
Enjoy the day
Michael, sunflowers were the Kansas state flower, and they grew wild all over the neighborhood where I grew up. The people next door (to my father's chagrin) let their whole back yard go to the sunflowers, and now I wish I could recapture the photo op!
Hi Michael, Well done! An interesting topic and I suppose many answers exist out there, mostly based on one's experience or lack thereof. Interesting the difference of picture to photo with the change from observer to artist/creator/presenter.
Great post! Wonderful picture! Sunflowers are my favorite!
Thanks for sharing.
Adam
Good afternoon Michael,
What wonderful pictures..you have such a creative eye..thank you for sharing your passion!
Michael,
Gorgeous photograph! Its like a painting.

There's something about Sunflowers that reminds me of my dad, sunshine and happiness. I think that great photos like these pass over into the world of fine art!
Having been a professional photographer for 12 years, I was really burnt out on the idea of photography. Reading your blogs and seeing your posts has encouraged me to start shooting for Fun again. Thank you for that.
I like the idea of slowing down for anything these days...and in your case it produces beautiful art!
Michael,
Great photos make all the difference in the world. You truly have a gift.

Hi Michael - Though it's not all black and white (ha ha), a photograph usually has some thought and intent put into it. Form, perspective, composition, light/shadow/color all go into the artistic side, and then it's a matter of having the skill to accurately capture the vision.
Hi Michael, I'm totally with you on photography. Great pics in the post ! Have a terriific Memorial Day !
Michael, the photos above do catch the imagination. Your passion for photography shows. I also need to say that I agree with everything Andrew said in the first comment.
Beautiful work with the sunflower. They are just a bright, sunny and uplifting subject matter. Thanks for sharing.

Some people take photography to an art form. For myself, I've found myself lost behind the lens and wondering how I got to certain places while trying to take the perfect photo.
A photograph captures our eyes. A picture captures the rest of us.
You have a fantastic eye! Anyone can take a photograph, but it takes someone like you to turn it into art!
Hi Michael! You truly do have a talent for photography and I guess that it does take a passion for the 'artwork' behind the lens to be as successful as you are at it.
I love the right mind comment--I'm left handed and always proclaim to be in my 'right mind!' LOL
Enjoy your Memorial Day...
That sunflower photo is amazing! I actually am an artist (3 years of lessons... watercolor, pen and ink-stippling and hatching, pastels, and general sketching) so obviously I graviate toward photos as well. Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment necessary to take REALLY good photos! I'm just waiting for a few good sales. I impatiently wait for the day I have a kick-butt zoom lens. Then, look out world! =D
I'm so pleased with myself when I take a great picture. I leave photographs to the pros like you, Michael, although I sure love to look at them!
Michael:
These could be photographs or paintings, but they are definitely works of art. That is the quality that distinguishes a great photographer from a mediocre one.
Great photos. Sunflowers are the best.
Michael, What a great photo of the field of flowers - but the single flower is incredible! Wonderful job.
